Ask most Pakistanis why they file a tax return and they’ll say “to stay compliant.” The sharper answer: to get on – and stay on – the Active Taxpayer List. ATL status quietly saves you money all year, on transactions you’d never connect to income tax.
What the ATL is
FBR publishes the ATL as the official roll of compliant filers. Banks, excise departments, property registrars and telecom companies check it before applying withholding tax rates. Active status = lower rates; inactive = higher rates, automatically.
Where it saves you money
- Banking: lower withholding on cash withdrawals and banking transactions.
- Mobile: lower tax deducted on every recharge and load.
- Vehicles: lower withholding on registration, transfer and token tax.
- Property: lower withholding for buyers and sellers on property transactions.
How to get (and keep) it
File your income tax return for the year, and surcharge/fee if applicable, before the deadline – then verify your name appears on the list. Miss a year and you drop off, with higher deductions resuming immediately. For many people, the withholding saved in a single property or vehicle transaction exceeds the entire cost of filing.
Our return filing service includes ATL confirmation as standard – filed, checked, confirmed.
